Meet Tom Miskell, our Chair

Tom’s experience in the housing sector spans over 20 years.

He is a former group chief executive of Together Housing Group, and a board director (vice chair) for Johnnie Johnson Housing Trust. Tom is also Chair of Northern Housing Consortium, and the chair of Pendleton Together Operating Ltd (PTOL) (Salford PFI). Tom is also the owner and director of consultancy Tom Miskell Ltd.

Tom also has a wealth of housing sector experience gained from former roles. These include group chief executive for Trans-Pennine Housing, and the former chief executive and deputy chief executive for Pennine Housing 2000. As the only member of the leadership team not transferred from the local authority, Tom played a major role in creating and developing a new culture.

Tom has also been executive director for Hacas Chapman Hendy, leading a multi-disciplinary team of management consultants on a wide range of assignments. These include over 20 large scale voluntary transfers creating multi-million pound businesses and securing private finance.

Tom has also been director of corporate services for Hambleton Housing Association and assistant director of housing for Derby City Council. He has also held roles with the Housing Corporation as area manager responsible for over 40 local authorities, and regional accountant, responsible for the financial appraisal of housing associations involved in private finance schemes.

Tom has also worked for the Civil Service and has held a number of non-executive director and chair roles on the boards of Calico Housing, the National Housing Federation’s Yorkshire & Humberside Regional Committee, the West Yorkshire Housing Partnership and a number of local strategic partnerships.

Tom was awarded the OBE in recognition of his outstanding commitment to the sector in the 2017 New Year Honours List.
