What is contents insurance?

Contents insurance is an insurance policy you take out to protect the things you own in your home from risks like being broken, damaged or stolen.

Do I need contents insurance?

Accent doesn’t cover any damage to your personal belongings.

Whether you’re a tenant or a homeowner, we strongly recommend you take out contents insurance to protect the things you own like your electronics, furniture and other precious items. That’s because no matter how careful you are, there’s always a risk that your belongings could be broken, damaged or stolen.

When you’re looking for contents insurance, always shop around for the best deal on websites. There are a number of comparison sites you can use, like Money Supermarket and Compare the Market.

Once you’ve picked a provider, make sure they’re regulated by the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) before signing anything.

What is buildings insurance?

Buildings insurance covers the cost of repairing any damage that happens to the structure of the building your home is in.

If we own or part-own your home, Accent most likely covers the buildings insurance, although shared owners should always refer to their lease

If you’re a freeholder, you’ll have to cover the cost of your buildings insurance

If you’re not sure, check your agreement with us. This is normally found in your MyAccount, but if you’re struggling to find it, you can drop us a line via the form on our Contact us page.

What does buildings insurance cover?

Aspects of your building like fixtures and fittings, walls, windows, doors and the roof are covered by buildings insurance.

However, it doesn’t include repairing the source of the fault. If you had water damage to your floors and walls, this would be covered, but repairing a leaking pipe that’s the cause would not.

Most homes related to us are covered by our building insurance, but if you are unsure what is covered, please check your lease or agreement to find out.

How do I make a buildings insurance claim?

Find out how to make a building insurance claim here. If you have any questions, please contact our team at any time.

If you are a tenant, you do not need to make a claim. Please report the repair as normal through MyAccount or by contacting our Technical Hub via the form on our Contact us page.

Our team will make a claim on the buildings policy if we need to.

If you are a leaseholder or shared owner, please let us know by getting in touch with us via the form on our Contact us page.

You must also contact the insurance company Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. on 01245 341255 or email their claims handler Jo Stevenson on jo_stevenson@ajg.com to put in a claim.

If you’re a freeholder who owns 100% of your home, you’ll need to arrange and organise your own building insurance cover.
