Shared ownership homeowners can claim £500 a year to help with essential repairs and replacements for up to 10 years from when your home was built, as long as:
- your home was bought under the government’s Affordable Homes Programme (AFP)
- your home was bought between 2021-26
- you own less than 100% of your home
What repairs would my claim pay for?
If you meet the above criteria, you’ll be entitled to claim up to £500 for essential repairs or replacements or installations relating to your supply of water, gas and electricity.
This includes fixing water setups, including sinks and baths, and gas and electricity setups, as well as pipes, drainage and heating systems.
It doesn’t include fixtures, fittings or appliances like your oven or washing machine.
How much can I claim and for how many years?
Find out your annual claim allowance and how many years are left in your 10-year period in your Key information about the home document.
If you don’t claim your full repairs allowance, up to one year’s allowance will roll over to the next year - we’ve outlined an example below.

What happens if I need more than the claim amount, or I need to claim after my 10-year period ends?
If you need more than your claim allowance, or after the 10-year period ends, you’ll have to cover these costs yourself.
What happens if I move out?
If you’re moving out, your repairs allowance moves to the new owner for however long is left of your 10-year period – unless they buy the whole home outright.
TrustMark registered tradespeople
In order to provide you with a claim, the repairs on your house will need to be carried out by approved tradespeople or professionals registered with TrustMark.
TrustMark is a UK government endorsement quality scheme for tradespeople and professionals.
How do I make a claim?
To claim your allowance, you’ll need to first report your repair to us, and let us know your bank details so we can transfer the money to your account.
Fill in both PDFs below and return them to us by email to SOrepairclaims@accentgroup.org or by post to Accent Housing Limited, West Point, Lynch Wood, Peterborough, PE2 6FZ.
- Repair claim form [PDF]
- Bank details form [PDF]
Once we’ve received your information, we’ll check to make sure your repair is covered by the scheme and get back to you within seven working days.
If needed, we might need to send someone to have a look at your home or contact contractors to check the claim amount.
Remember, any repairs and maintenance costs over the allowance amount, as well as any general repairs and maintenance within your home, will still be your responsibility.
We don’t process any claims until the repair work is done.
